About this artwork
“Leading the way” is a follow up work to my latest series "Wearing to Travel" exploring new works on polyester. This piece was created more intuitively, I allowed the organic random oxidation to induce the colors and shapes. This piece also explores how oxidation is representative of age and time, and that connection with traveling through experiences.
Stephen Rybacki, a determined drawer turned painter, makes bold impressions by mastering the interplay of metal and time. Working with hardwood panels, he uses plaster, acrylic, and found objects to achieve textural depth, and recently, fabric and canvas enhance his vision. Harnessing rust as art, Rybacki's pieces force viewers to confront time's relentless march—its sublime decay rubbing shoulders with beauty-in-ageing.
