About this artwork
She invites the elements into the stone itself, into the pigments too, with the same grip that she knows how to breathe into her watery inks, slippery and yet so full. The grip of her calcined, anthracite bas-reliefs resonates with the breath of her flayed figures, just as with the abrupt one of wheat, waves or agitated rocks. Sylvia knows how to place a form of plenitude in each of her works. She magnifies and investigates each subtlety of her inspirations;…
waves, trees, mountains, uprooting, grip, fall. She shapes, sculpts, removes, adds, rewrites, and, as if in a furtive zest, each work stops and is. Powerful, as few are.
