This picture draws its tension from the juxtaposition of two portraits. On the one hand the depiction of a vital, living person, on the other hand an icon of art history who has been alienated by a massive aging process. The earrings are the connecting element. There is a showdown here. Centuries separate these images and yet the presence of both people is noticeable. The present and art history are merged here using the means of painting. That is…
