About this artwork
"Clearing in the Autumn Forest" captures one of those moments when light and nature enter into a silent choreography. Warm sunlight breaks through the tall tree trunks and settles like a golden veil over the forest floor. The delicate watercolor layers make the atmosphere seem almost transparent—as if you were standing in the forest yourself, holding your breath so as not to disturb the tranquility.
This work speaks of the special magic of transition:… from late summer to autumn, from lightness to heaviness, of transience and simultaneous renewal. It invites us to recognize something lasting in the seemingly fleeting moment—the feeling of security, beauty, and connection to nature.
For me as an artist, painting is not just a depiction, but a resonance. "Autumn Forest" is an expression of a longing for stillness and clarity—and an invitation to make this quality tangible in one's own home.
Annett Coumont is a contemporary watercolor artist who lives and works near Cologne. Using high-quality watercolors on Arches cotton paper, she creates atmospheric works that explore light, stillness, and the emotional impact of nature.
A self-taught artist influenced by international watercolor masters, she developed a distinctive visual language that blends naturalistic observation, impressionistic light, and contemporary, biophilic aesthetics. Her work focuses on depictions of nature and landscapes, floral motifs, and still lifes.
Her works arise from an exploration of solastalgia – the sadness over the loss of familiar natural spaces. The beauty of her paintings points to the fragility of what surrounds us.
Coumont's works are regularly selected for international watercolor exhibitions and are found in private collections worldwide.
