About this artwork
Based on the geometric image of a Fibonacci spiral, I set out to achieve a modern echo of an ancient image.
The piece blends instinct and structure, guiding the eye through shapes and rhythmic movement that demonstrate a natural pattern and spiralling order. Bold colour and textured marks build a charged atmosphere, as if the subject is emerging through heat, motion, and light.
There is also something primal here, like a powerful figure rendered… by torchlight on a cave wall. Layered surfaces and raw, gestural strokes recall early mark making, where animals were not decoration but symbol, story, and survival. Fibonacci Roar invites you to sense the pattern beneath the power, and the power inside the pattern.

Barry Sears is primarily a painter working with oils and mixed media. He returned to his artistic journey in 2022 whilst winding down his former career in Finance. He received his formal training at the Milan Art Institute. His process is deeply experimental, building vibrant imagery from chaotic beginnings and favouring striking, non-traditional colour palettes over realism. His layered techniques create depth and intrigue, while his work conveys a sense of inspired transformation, finding beauty and order within expressive bursts of colour and the ever-shifting play of light and shade.
