About this artwork
I set out to create the silent intensity of a cat at night - alert, controlled, and powerful. The deep indigo and violet palette gives a dusk-to-midnight atmosphere, while electric highlights pull your focus to the fixed stare.
The piece balances concealment and revelation: the animal is partially swallowed by darkness yet defined by light, as if it’s emerging only in flashes. Indigo Hunt is a portrait of pursuit without noise, celebrating the elegance… of the predator and the charged stillness that comes before motion.

Barry Sears is primarily a painter working with oils and mixed media. He returned to his artistic journey in 2022 whilst winding down his former career in Finance. He received his formal training at the Milan Art Institute. His process is deeply experimental, building vibrant imagery from chaotic beginnings and favouring striking, non-traditional colour palettes over realism. His layered techniques create depth and intrigue, while his work conveys a sense of inspired transformation, finding beauty and order within expressive bursts of colour and the ever-shifting play of light and shade.
