About this artwork
Beach Combers is part of my ongoing Rogues' Gallery series, which explores the characters and fleeting communities that form in public spaces. Whether in cafés, bars, city streets, or along the shore, I am interested in the moments when strangers and companions briefly share the same place and time.
Inspired by years of living and traveling internationally, the figures in this painting are not portraits of specific individuals but composite characters… drawn from observation and memory. Set against a bright coastal backdrop, the work captures the atmosphere of a summer afternoon shaped by conversation, companionship, and quiet human rituals.
Through expressive linework, simplified forms, and saturated color, I seek to convey emotional presence rather than literal likeness. Like the other inhabitants of the Rogues' Gallery, these figures invite viewers to imagine the stories, relationships, and encounters that connect them.
