About this artwork
A painting from the beginnings of my painting, created in the early 1980s. In 1996, when heavy floods hit northern Germany and the roof of our courtyard had just been removed, vast amounts of water ran down the walls of the rooms. You can still see the streams of water running down in this picture. I didn't restore the painting because the circumstances described above made it more expressive. With the burning people, I wanted to depict the pain… and the burning of one's own identity. The bridge would then be the way out. Almost all of my paintings at that time were created using my airbrush technique, which I have also described in books. In the 1980s, airbrush painting was a very popular movement.
Carl Röhrig, trained at the Academy of Graphic Arts in Munich, works primarily with acrylic and oil paintings on canvas. Using his special relief technique, he creates fantastical naturalism where depth of detail is paramount. Influenced by Max Ernst and the Surrealists, Röhrig's art explores nature, the environment, and endangered animals in a hyperrealistic way to highlight the beauty of our world. His work radiates joie de vivre and invites individual spirituality.
