I sat here and ate my lunch while watching a pair of kestrels. Gerard Manley Hopkins captures how I feel about this kestrel in his poem of the same name. I love the colours in this painting and put a lot of work into the detail. You will need to look hard to find the mate.

dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High… there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! Then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel swoops smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
