About this artwork
Looking at characterful rocks like this I always remember that Cornwall is an ancient land of myth and legend. When our ancestors gathered around their glowing fires on dark, cold evenings it would be their affinity to the landscape around them that would often provide the starting point for stories. Today there are still vestiges of giants, animals and mythical creatures hidden in the rocks. This character is called Kellan Head.
Chris Edwards, a dedicated painter with formal training from Redruth Art School and Eton Hall, brings her deep connection to the Cornish landscape into her oil paintings. She masterfully blends realism with expressive atmosphere, often incorporating cold wax and celebrating accidental effects for mesmerizing detail and texture. Through her luminous depictions of nature, she conveys a sense of wonder, peace, and the subtle tension of underlying forces, inviting viewers to experience both the beauty and the emotional complexity of the natural world.
