About this artwork
Texture makes my fingers tingle! I prepared areas of the board with layers of bread wrapper tissue before applying gesso and using oil paint. It was the beauty of the form that I wanted to capture – its sculptural quality. Usually, this part of the wreck sleeps beneath the sand. Then, I am fascinated by the story of S.S. Belem and in man’s endeavour to build something huge and strong and how Nature so easily devours it. It is now an alien but beautiful…
