Unlike its Asian relative, which is used for plowing rice fields and as a major supplier of milk and was brought to Europe, where, in southern Italy, the famous mozzarella is produced with its milk, the African buffalo is considered a very dangerous animal, so much so that it has always been impossible to tame it. The author has made it in an aggressive posture given by the head lowered with respect to the shoulders and accentuated by the movement… of the arched base which seems to project it towards an imaginary opponent. In this case he used a color based on clay and pigments (engobe) which can be given before placing the object in the kiln. Firing thus also has the function of fixing the colour. The object was completed by a large stone pine wood base of the same weight as the animal.
« In my design, there has always been an idea of three-dimensionality which then naturally became the design of three-dimensional objects. »
