The story of King Kong, one of the most famous cinema monsters, born for the first time as a character in a novel by Edgar Wallace in the 1930s, summarizes the themes inherent in the ancient myth of Beauty and the Beast . Being a monster who turns out to be endowed with delicate feelings and therefore capable of arousing our sympathy, the artist decided, in this work, to give the story an optimistic ending by having Pegasus, the winged horse, intervene… as a deus ex machina. Classical mythology therefore saves contemporary mythology here. The three characters, the ape, the horse with wings and the girl with whom King is in love and the Empire State Building are made of polyester foam while the city of New York is made up of parallelepipeds in recycled plastic or cardboard, born as beverage containers. The base is made of wood on which a transparent plexiglass casing rests to protect the whole.
« In my design, there has always been an idea of three-dimensionality which then naturally became the design of three-dimensional objects. »
