Asterion, the Minotaur is the result of Pasiphae's passion for the bull sent by Poseidon and archetype of the monster. The myth says that Athens, at that time subjected to Crete, was forced to pay a bloody tribute by periodically sending seven boys and seven girls to be offered as a meal to the Minotaur, who, locked up by Minos in the labyrinth, ate human flesh. It was the "superhero" Theseus - son of the king of Athens Aegeus - who killed the monster… and freed Athens.
Marrying the interpretation of JL Borges in the wonderful story "The house of Asterion", the author sees the Minotaur as a victim and therefore represents him as he offers his head to the executioner Theseus on a copper tray. It is inside his labyrinth that I have synthesized into a spiral that forms the basis of the sculpture. For the bull's head and for the labyrinth-pedestal I used green clay which turns red after cooking, for the body of Asterion I used white clay commonly known as earthenware.
« In my design, there has always been an idea of three-dimensionality which then naturally became the design of three-dimensional objects. »
