About this artwork
This figure swims through life. Each line is a chapter. The figure's words follow them washed but the water, comforted by things that represent home, such as a plant, with the red pot calling out like a beacon. The balance of items create mystery and allude to a bigger story...a story unfinished.
David Kurtz, an Oklahoma-born, San Francisco-based painter, began his journey in the arts honing skills under local artists and at Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts. His Neo-Expressionist style, inspired by the likes of Basquiat and Rauschenberg, employs vigorous and improvisational lines with a distinctive matte effect, creating layers of depth and texture. Through his creations, themes such as civil rights, and religious influence laced with dark humor are navigated, aiming to stir a mix of discomfort and amusement in viewers.
