About this artwork
In this piece, I combine a multitude of conceptual and pictorial aspects. Conceptually, I propose an image based on movement and glitches, drawing inspiration from the video game Portal (hence both the title and the upper and lower edges), while also incorporating lateral movement with the green strip that appears to extend beyond the work's margin. The title, "The Cake Is a Lie," is the slogan of this game and, at the same time, a reference to the…
unease of pursuing a reward that seems never to arrive, that always eludes us. The entire action unfolds on a surface that intentionally confuses us at first glance, with a trompe l'oeil combined with something very real: the wall. The color of this surface is close to that of the raw canvas, causing the separation between the upper and lower spaces to accentuate and blur depending on our position within the environment. All of this is achieved through the most absolute compositional minimalism.
