About this artwork
"Evening Comes" happened when the light transformed this scene. It was at a photo shoot in Easton, Kansas, called "American Frontier Production" and hosted by cowboy Robert Culbertson on his ranch. The horses had a fun day of running through water, rounding up cattle, running through staged gunfights, etc. They almost seemed sad to me that the fun was ending for the day. But they were also happy to stop for a spell. The light as evening began…
to descend was so beautiful.
I felt like I couldn't help but feel like all was well with the world in this moment. And it was.

Debra Keirce, a painter and drawer with a background in biochemical engineering, masterfully works in oils and charcoal, drawing from rigorous classical training. She employs layered, tightly rendered traditional realism—often achieved through indirect techniques reminiscent of the Dutch Masters—across genres from photorealistic still lifes and marine art to portraits and fantastical beasts. Her artworks invite viewers into immersive narratives, evoking warm memories, wonder, and joy, aiming always to resonate with emotion and contribute positively to the well-being of those who experience her art.
