I developed this academic study directly from the abstract work Atheria. Rather than illustrating a myth or producing a narrative image, I approached this piece as a formal translation from abstraction to figuration.
The colour palette and the atmospheric qualities of the abstract work are intentionally preserved. They inform the structure of the composition and the treatment of light, allowing the figure to emerge without resolving the abstraction… from which it originates.
The serene face draws from classical academic studies, where expression is restrained and subordinated to balance, proportion, and compositional clarity. I treat the figure not as a subject to be portrayed, but as a structural presence.
This work is part of an ongoing investigation between abstraction and classical form, where figuration remains a temporary state — a momentary condensation of the abstract rather than a final destination.
Denis Leclerc, a classically trained painter and accomplished digital artist, bridges the worlds of fine art and visual communication with an expansive practice rooted in oil, acrylic, and digital media. His intricate, layered digital abstractions skillfully blend painterly gestures with subtle animation, drawing from a meditative, minimalist sensibility or a lush, baroque digital vocabulary. Each piece explores transformation and ambiguity, inviting viewers into liminal spaces where forms shift and dissolve—conveying emotions of suspension, quiet resonance, and lingering presence that invite slow, contemplative attention.
