Makena — Study in Academic Light from the Siren Series
This academic study is directly inspired by the abstract version of Makena previously developed within the Siren Series. The palette, composition, and overall atmosphere originate from the abstract work and serve as the structural foundation for this figurative interpretation.
My objective was not to reinterpret the subject symbolically, but to translate an existing abstract image into a realistic,… academic language. The colour relationships, tonal balance, and spatial organization were preserved, while the figure was introduced as a controlled and disciplined response to that abstract framework.
The work draws on academic principles such as measured light, stable posture, and restrained expression. Light is used to describe form without dramatization, and the surface treatment remains calm and cohesive. The figure does not dominate the composition; it integrates into it.
Denis Leclerc, a classically trained painter and accomplished digital artist, bridges the worlds of fine art and visual communication with an expansive practice rooted in oil, acrylic, and digital media. His intricate, layered digital abstractions skillfully blend painterly gestures with subtle animation, drawing from a meditative, minimalist sensibility or a lush, baroque digital vocabulary. Each piece explores transformation and ambiguity, inviting viewers into liminal spaces where forms shift and dissolve—conveying emotions of suspension, quiet resonance, and lingering presence that invite slow, contemplative attention.
