About this artwork
Here, I show two young women who have reached the age where life calls each of them towards their own path. They grew up together, and their bond seems almost symbiotic.
Through the interplay of lines and chiaroscuro, the forms extend and merge. Shadows absorb each other, patterns echo one another, like an invisible line that never breaks.
The drawing suspends this fragile moment where destinies open up: will their paths separate them, or will… their friendship continue to live through distance and time?
A drawing where the line becomes a living link between beings.
Émilie Vas primarily uses oil paint, watercolor, and drawing, incorporating a rich cultural journey through France, Italy, and Asia into her artistic practice. She employs classical techniques, layering light and shadow, while emphasizing the materiality of the medium, the interplay of solid and void, and contrasts of saturated colors. Through her works, she conveys the fragile and unpredictable beauty of existence, the complexity of the human soul, and the pure hope of childhood.
