About this artwork
This work represents a Dipper, observed at the edge of a stream. Its small size in the immensity of the waterway is a deliberate choice: rather than making the bird an isolated subject, I wanted to place it in its environment and show the close relationship that unites it to the environment in which it lives.
Water, stones, and vegetation thus occupy an important place in the composition. Reflections, transparencies, and variations of light constantly… transform the landscape around the bird, which becomes an anchor point in this moving matter.
This way of representing living things particularly interests me: observing an animal in its environment allows us to tell a story that goes far beyond the animal itself. It evokes its habitat, its fragility, and the connections that exist between each element of an ecosystem.

Florence Ehrlich-Haimet is a self-taught painter working mainly with wax-based coloured pencils on polyester film, drawing from a transformative studio experience in the USA and insights gained living in Japan. She merges figuration with abstraction, layering luminous colours and textures to balance close observation with expressive, graphic forms, especially fascinated by reflections and boundaries between the natural and human-made. Her work evokes a sense of wonder and attentiveness, inviting viewers to pause, see the familiar anew, and reflect on the fragile beauty of the living world.
