About this artwork
In this work, I explore the dialogue between water, vegetation, and the architecture of a Japanese garden. The bridge and its reflection in the water create a continuity between the visible world and its image, while the foliage and variations of light give the scene an almost meditative depth.
I sought to capture the richness of the forms and textures observed in this landscape, while also giving significant prominence to the reflections and distortions… of the image in the water. The subject thus becomes as much the landscape itself as the way it transforms through our gaze.
Through this work, I seek to convey a feeling of calm and attentiveness, inviting you to take the time to observe the details and subtleties of life.
The drawing is done on a 140µm polyester film with wax crayons.

Florence Ehrlich-Haimet is a self-taught painter who works primarily with wax-based colored pencils on polyester film. Her work is inspired by a formative studio experience in the United States and a stay in Japan. She merges figuration and abstraction, layering luminous colors and textures to achieve a balance between meticulous observation and expressive graphic forms. Fascinated by reflections and the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, her work evokes wonder and attention.
