About this artwork
By closely observing the trunk of a eucalyptus tree, I discovered an unexpected landscape in the shapes and colors of its bark. Shades of blue, gray, ochre, and pink blend with the cracks and irregularities to compose an almost abstract image.
I wanted to change the way we look at the tree: no longer seeing the whole, but focusing on a fragment, on a material and the traces it bears. At this scale, the bark becomes a veritable landscape, revealing… forms that each person can freely interpret.
The drawing is made on a 140µm polyester film measuring 50 by 65cm, using wax crayons.

Florence Ehrlich-Haimet is a self-taught painter who works primarily with wax-based colored pencils on polyester film. Her work is inspired by a formative studio experience in the United States and a stay in Japan. She merges figuration and abstraction, layering luminous colors and textures to achieve a balance between meticulous observation and expressive graphic forms. Fascinated by reflections and the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, her work evokes wonder and attention.
