About this artwork
This painting is a memory of a vacation afternoon by a swimming pool in Jakarta, Indonesia.
A plate of local fruit is placed on the stone edge.
The interest of this painting lies in its bright colors that bring exoticism (the kinds of fruits, the navy blue color of the typical swimming pool of the country, etc.), but also in several types of play of reflections between shadows and lights on the water: The lapping of the water agitates and distorts… the designs of the tiles, the dark shadows on the water are the result of the shadows of the buildings bordering the swimming pool. Taking a step back, we see a pale milky white reflection on the surface of the water which is the reflection of the sky. There is a deliberate opposition between the movement of the water and the immobility of the stone coping.
Inspired since his childhood by the beauty of Nature, colors and drawing, François d'Ardailhon became a painter using acrylic in figurative after thirty years of experience in oil abstraction. Adopting techniques such as pouring and dripping, he developed a "bio-organic" style simulating the sublime textures and colors of nature. His works celebrate the precious and threatened essence of nature, creating a soothing universe because it is connected to ourselves.
