About this artwork
Provence in the south of France on a beautiful morning in late June below the well-known village of Sault.
I wanted to paint this moment when the lavender fields are in bloom, the air is mild, the colors seem supernatural.
The planes making up the painting are very simple: in the foreground a field of wild spelt with shades of soft green rising towards yellow in the background, in the background a field of lavender billowing in the light breeze… of the wind, further away a hill under the sky with its thicket vegetation of the early Provençal summer.
I painted the multitude of fine stems of the spelt field with felt-tip pens with different shades of green and yellow. It is a zoom in, almost abstract, on the intense greenery of this field which brings a kind of vegetal freshness by these very tight and recently grown stems.
Note the chromatic complementarity of the greens and yellows of the spelt field compared to the mauves of the lavender field.
Inspired since his childhood by the beauty of Nature, colors and drawing, François d'Ardailhon became a painter using acrylic in figurative after thirty years of experience in oil abstraction. Adopting techniques such as pouring and dripping, he developed a "bio-organic" style simulating the sublime textures and colors of nature. His works celebrate the precious and threatened essence of nature, creating a soothing universe because it is connected to ourselves.
