About this artwork
This work combines the strength of classical tradition with contemporary symbolism.
The figure of the discus thrower, an icon of balance and control, is surrounded by Gastone's typical "hominids": small, essential presences that represent common humanity, the audience that observes, judges, or simply watches.
The athletic gesture and the blue background create a sense of movement and vitality, while the golden detail introduces a touch of luminous… energy.
A work that speaks of strength, harmony, and upward tension, capable of giving character and dynamism to any space.

« Only the art remains. »
Gastone Cecconello (Vercelli, 1942) has been working for over sixty years in painting, sculpture, and mixed media. His visual language—based on the figure of the hominid as a metaphor for the human condition—arises from the dialogue between matter and symbol, between the archaic and the contemporary.
He has exhibited in over one hundred solo shows in Italy and abroad: Columbia University in New York, Staatsuniversität Hamburg, the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna, and Galerie Man Arte in Paris. Critic Pierre Restany has written about his work. His career is documented in the monograph Alle origini del mito (Silvana Editoriale, 2012).
At over eighty years old, he still works every day in his studio in Salussola, Biella.
