About this artwork
In this 2015 work, Cecconello plays with matter and color to create a composition in two registers: at the top, the “hominids” stand out like small presences nestled between beams of colored light; at the bottom, a row of bottles evokes daily alchemy, under the number “83”, which gives structure to the whole.
The apparent uniformity is broken by pastel colors, symbols of individuality hidden within a precise pattern. The work seems to speak of… time, memory and the human need to leave traces - even minimal ones - in the orderly flow of life.

Gastone Cecconello (Vercelli, 1942) has been working for over sixty years in painting, sculpture, and mixed media. His visual language—based on the figure of the hominid as a metaphor for the human condition—arises from the dialogue between matter and symbol, between the archaic and the contemporary.
He has exhibited in over one hundred solo shows in Italy and abroad: Columbia University in New York, Staatsuniversität Hamburg, the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna, and Galerie Man Arte in Paris. Critic Pierre Restany has written about his work. His career is documented in the monograph Alle origini del mito (Silvana Editoriale, 2012).
At over eighty years old, he still works every day in his studio in Salussola, Biella.
