About this artwork
I created Papageno as a reflection of a fragmented self – a figure caught between longing and silence. Inspired by Mozart’s The Magic Flute, this sculpture explores what remains when the voice is lost and the joy fades.
The fractured face and hollowed eyes suggest emotional erosion. I used cement and acrylics to create a rough, timeworn surface – something unearthed, damaged, but still alive. The beaded chest adds a strange, ornamental softness,… like a forgotten costume.
This is not Papageno the bird-catcher, but a symbol of the human condition – a solitary, broken presence still yearning to be seen.
