About this artwork
This painting unfolded without urgency and without a fixed destination. I laid down calm before I laid down form, letting the surface breathe before I asked anything of it. The woman emerged from that quiet foundation, her face rendered in considered grey tones, present before expressive, steady before revealed.
Her gaze does not seek approval. The hands resting gently against her face arrived almost instinctively, late in the process, and changed… everything. They are not holding on and they are not letting go. They simply exist there, a gesture of self-support so small and so complete that the painting stopped being about a figure and became about something larger.
She belongs to the Limitless Women universe as the identity our culture most often overlooks: the woman who knows how to be still. Not passive. Not absent. Still in the way of someone who has decided she does not have to react to everything that demands her reaction.

Geethu Chandramohan is a contemporary mixed-media portrait artist and aerospace engineer based in Hertfordshire, UK. Her work explores the many identities women carry through a single life.
