About this artwork
NOW, my latest painting, is a self-portrait. But it is also a study of what Now means. There are so many layers of ideas that it boggles the mind!In it, I am painting a red spiral, that changes to bright white light and then to blueish white. That spiral exists somewhere between the portrait and the viewer. This self portrait emerged on the canvas while working abstractly with no planning. I saw the face and began to refine it, along with what I was doing in the picture. It is still difficult to be sure what the implications of this painting truly are. Note, most of the yellows in this painting are achieved using a type of gold paint, which gives it another dimension.
