About this artwork
This is my version of a thick kelp bed, the sunshine filtering through the murky sea water by adding a light, understated touch of metallic gold pastel. I can still remember the various kinds of seaweed that would wash up onshore after storms when my family lived there. The ocean never really leaves your heart!
In 2021 during the pandemic, there were many online "artist challenges" with various guidelines. I participated in the #abstractartfor40dayschallenge… . The abstracts were out of my comfort zone, and were a wonderful way of experimenting with new techniques using new materials like PanPastels, which are soft pastels in a cake form applied with specialty sponges. This is Day 33 titled "Kelp," a pastel on 400 grit Uart paper 12" H x 9" W unframed.
