About this artwork
I had found this decaying tree in a local park while walking, and it felt like it had reached out with its last gasp, with the look of a frozen scream. Nature so wants us to hear, to see, to experience, to connect with her.
It is a reminder to "listen" to our environment, which is so easily overlooked and taken for granted.
Titled "Tree Scream no.1", this piece is an Expressionist piece in homage to my one of my favorite artists, Edvard Munch.… His work, deeply rooted in psychology, had a profound influence on my development as an artist.
It is a monochromatic pastel on Arches paper, 12" H x 7.75" W, framed in a black wooden frame (12" x 8") for the Pittsburgh Pastel Artists League 2024 Annual Members Juried Exhibition "Rendering Radiance" at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Ligonier, PA. *In the closeup photo of the top left corner and the in situ photos, there is a shadow from the frame. The warm shadow is not in the artwork itself.
