About this artwork
Inspiration and profound emotion were inspired by an unfinished wooden sculpture in the Fulda Cathedral Museum (Germany). All the suffering of humanity seems to be embodied in this Man of Sorrows. (Perhaps the artist was so moved by it that he could not complete the bust?)
Oversized thorns protrude from the tangle around the head, so painful - almost unbearable...
A new interpretation had to be created for the god of love: so fresh olive branches… now sprout from the crown of thorns. The same is true for other parts of the olive wood sculpture, symbols of hope for new life...
But the most touching thing is the dove, nestled into the hollow of the martyr's shoulder. A warm, soft, lively dove, seeking refuge in the "DEUS PACIS".
This message should be seen, understood, and lived...
