About this artwork
An unusually beautiful iris appears oversized, powerfully filling the entire picture. The pencil has been used here only for emphasis, while the flower and the landscape it betrays are rendered in delicate colours.
The "Lago Maggiore" (Italy/Ch.), which it presents through the transparency of the lower petals, stretches southwards across the Maggia delta near Locarno(Ticino/Ch.). The "Brissagic Islands" are indicated on the right in the lake.
The… mountains on the shore and the water of the lake absorb the blue of the innermost petals. Her delicate veins are mainly worked in violet. The stamens are brush-like and radiate in three directions in sunny yellow.
A lot of movement rising up into the sky, a lot of connection to the earth and in all dynamics the calm and stillness of the lake.

« Vanitas resonates in the allegria about the beauty of creation. This calls for striving to preserve the unique creation with gratitude and humility! »
Karin Steffek-Moravia has received major international awards and attracted considerable attention with her exhibitions worldwide. In addition to exploring socio-political issues, particularly environmental protection, she creates "hymns to the beauty of creation" with her transparent, watercolor-based pencil and colored pencil drawings. Steffek-Moravia also skillfully explores spiritual and mystical themes, blending yesterday and today into a compelling harmony.
