About this artwork
I met this magnificent stallion in Friesland, in the North of Holland. He is a Friesian stallion, a breed noted for their magnificent manes and tails.
This stallion is loose in a field and has come charging towards me with nostrils flaring. I'm sitting on the ground hoping with fingers and toes crossed that he will stop before he ends up in my lap or trampling me under his magnificently feathered hooves. Friesians were originally war horses and looks… magnificently warlike, but can also do perfect dressage, - but then, as I understand it, dressage was originally a discipline to teach horses how to behave in war. This may be quite wrong, but it does somehow hand together as a narrative.
