About this artwork
The title derives from an interest in early Italian art and refers to historical paintings of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, although the subject here is not necessarily religious. The female figure surrenders herself to a state of paradise, her body tense and strained backwards while gently supported and lifted by the slightly decentred sphere, like a bubble… floating upwards. The tooled background seems to effervesce around the figure, receiving and absorbing it.
Three different treatments of gold leaf have been used to create the image - matte gold with a bright sheen on the figure, gold burnished to a dark, high gloss on the sphere and glittering, tooled gold for the background.
The picture is signed and dated on the reverse and is ready to hang. It could also be displayed framed - see the photograph in a white box frame, as an example (please ask Singulart for framing).
