About this artwork
The Bigots. Rather than an angry look, I preferred to take a humorous look at all these good consciences who preach morality and shamelessly display their good feelings in a comfortable atmosphere.
It's a wild, bordering on burlesque procession, into which a few little devils have slipped. Symbols stumble and collapse, while chaos remains and the world's wars continue unabated.
The characters were drawn in broad strokes, in an impulsive way,… and little by little I saw this procession take shape.
In this deliberately and joyfully provocative painting, the colors remain rather tonic and warm, like a hope, a faith, in better days.
A joyful uproar to talk "cheerfully" about a serious subject.
