About this artwork
"Bucolic Landscape" is a signed, original oil painting on a cradled birch panel. The panel was coated with three layers of gesso and sanded to a smooth surface.
This fictional landscape depicts a country ranch fence in the foreground, leading to a stand of autumn trees. An undulating middle ground of brushy undergrowth leads the eye to the horizon.
The limited palette of sap greens and red ochre comes to life, producing a natural scene created… by scraping into and wiping away the wet oil paint. I painted this image without visual references, a technique employed by only a few landscape painters using oil colors thinned with a transparent, oil-based medium.
A natural maple wood frame is available upon request. Signed on the back by the artist. Includes certificate of authenticity.

My artistic practice is the result of a lifelong dialogue with visual structure. After graduating from RISD and spending over three decades as a Design Director for institutions like Harry N.
