About this artwork
I've long admired humble cattail plants for their variety, versatility, adaptability, and usefulness. Often sacrificed by developers of shorefront properties, these hearty stalwarts provide food and shelter to a wide range of mammals, amphibians, and fish. Their roots are edible, filter contaminants from fresh or salt water, and prevent erosion of water-soaked soil.
In this painting, I depict a stand of cattails on the Weir Farm pond in Ridgefield… and Wilton, CT. The Weir Farm is a national historic site dedicated to J. Alden Weir, a painter in the early days of our country who hosted many American fine artists at his sprawling country estate.
This painting measures 36"w x 24"h. It may be purchased framed in a natural wood floating frame that's ready to hang, or it can be requested unframed.
My artistic practice is the result of a lifelong dialogue with visual structure. After graduating from RISD and spending over three decades as a Design Director for institutions like Harry N. Abrams, Oxford University Press, and Random House, I understand the mechanics of any image—composition, balance, and the hierarchy of visual information.
For my digital print-on-demand works, I maintain a strict 'Studio Stopover' protocol to ensure museum-grade quality. Unlike standard print-on-demand services, these pieces are first shipped to my Connecticut studio for personal inspection.
Each work is examined for color fidelity, hand-signed, and numbered by me personally. I then assemble a custom 'Care Kit' for the collector, including a detailed explanation of the work and a Certificate of Authenticity.
This meticulous process adds approximately 7–10 days to the delivery timeline, but it ensures that the work you receive meets the highest professional standards of the fine art market.
