About this artwork
This seaside summer home sits at the end of a sandy road on Chappaquiddick Island, Matha's Vineyard, MA, facing southwest and overlooking Katama Bay. Beyond the bay lies a narrow, constantly shifting sand bar that prevents the Atlantic Ocean's waves from rushing onto the beach depicted in the foreground.
I spent over three weeks in my studio working on this picture, reconstructing the scene from photographs and drawing on memories of our many summer… vacations there. I painted with oil colors and cold wax on Italian linen canvas. It's finished with a high-grade, clear, removable artwork varnish. The cold wax medium was used to thicken the brush strokes of the footprints in the foreground sand.
It's currently framed in a 1.5" deep handsome walnut-stained floater frame and is ready to hang, including all necessary hardware. The painting can be easily swapped out of the dark wood frame and dropped into a natural maple wood floater frame if that works better for your room.
My artistic practice is the result of a lifelong dialogue with visual structure. After graduating from RISD and spending over three decades as a Design Director for institutions like Harry N. Abrams, Oxford University Press, and Random House, I understand the mechanics of any image—composition, balance, and the hierarchy of visual information.
For my digital print-on-demand works, I maintain a strict 'Studio Stopover' protocol to ensure museum-grade quality. Unlike standard print-on-demand services, these pieces are first shipped to my Connecticut studio for personal inspection.
Each work is examined for color fidelity, hand-signed, and numbered by me personally. I then assemble a custom 'Care Kit' for the collector, including a detailed explanation of the work and a Certificate of Authenticity.
This meticulous process adds approximately 7–10 days to the delivery timeline, but it ensures that the work you receive meets the highest professional standards of the fine art market.
