About this artwork
I’m drawn to those hidden, mossy places where the forest feels ancient but alive. The air is thick with life and old stories, and the branches feel like they are limbs moving, shifting, almost reaching for you.
That’s the feeling I wanted to express here - so there’s green limbs twisting through the picture space like old spirits, blue water dark and sparking in the light beneath them, the whole piece and place alive in a way you only notice when… you’re there and you stop, listen and let the forest speak to you.
Maureen Connolly is a painter and visual artist whose lifelong, non-linear art education spans formal study, self-directed exploration, and a deep commitment to mixed media, including oil, watercolour, acrylic, ink, and charcoal. Her intuitive, fluid technique weaves together plein air landscapes, layered abstraction, and mark-making, blurring boundaries between figuration and abstraction. Her work resonates with themes of nature’s necessity and feminine experience, conveying profound restoration, grace, and the deeply felt truth that she is part of the living world she paints.
