About this artwork
Last summer I spent some time painting in Plein air in Galway. During that time I visited a place called Thoor, Ballylee which was the home of WB Yeats. The Streamstown River runs right by the home and indeed part of the home was a mill with a mill wheel. I was captivated by the place and visited it a few times both painting and taking photos. This work is from a photo I took on a beautiful sunny day when the water and the colours of nature around… it were particularly vibrant. The work is painted on archival paper (description of paper provided in photo but will be mounted on canvas to frame.
Maureen Connolly is a painter and visual artist whose lifelong, non-linear art education spans formal study, self-directed exploration, and a deep commitment to mixed media, including oil, watercolour, acrylic, ink, and charcoal. Her intuitive, fluid technique weaves together plein air landscapes, layered abstraction, and mark-making, blurring boundaries between figuration and abstraction. Her work resonates with themes of nature’s necessity and feminine experience, conveying profound restoration, grace, and the deeply felt truth that she is part of the living world she paints.
