About this artwork
Lake Chiemsee probably knows my soul like no other place. I've taken countless pictures of it, and I've spent a lot of time on its shores. I've captured all sorts of moods there, at all different times of day. I've cried there, laughed there, been angry there, asked myself questions, and often simply felt nothing. But every time I left Lake Chiemsee, I felt good.
Reflection shows a scene at Lake Chiemsee as it appears during the day; in October… and November, just before winter sets in, the lake becomes quiet. At this time, images often emerge that are calm and simple, without stress, boats, or people.
I think carefully about what I want to photograph, and often no pictures are taken simply because it doesn't fit, because I want to enjoy it for myself.
Merten Riesner, with a background in emergency medical services, primarily uses analog and digital medium format cameras. His style, a blend of portraits and landscapes, allows him to process his emotions and experiences intuitively. His images often reflect a wide range of feelings – from heartbreak and loneliness to vitality and hope. Through his art, he speaks directly to human emotions, creating a visual diary of his inner life.
