About this artwork
I saw this lobsterman loading bins of bait fish onto his boat moored at Customs House Wharf in Portland, Maine. It was a quiet and serene moment with only the seagulls looking on, hoping for a free handout. Through layers of rich, muted tones, I've portrayed the serene companionship and silent understanding shared in a daily ritual at sea. This artwork, rooted in realism, offers a glimpse into the quietly profound connections found in the simplest… acts of life, infusing any space with depth and tranquility. I really liked how the intense orange of the lobsterman's overalls was mirrored in the orange life preserver inside the cabin of the boat.
« I am drawn to art that gives me a glimpse of what life was like in the past. I strive to do the same for those viewing in the future. »
Michael Maron is an experienced artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. In his most recent works, he reflects his desire to document a way of life that is under stress from global warming and a progressive loss of working waterfront that is in danger of disappearing. Maron's distinctive figurative compositions are created with oils on canvas.
