About this artwork
Years ago, I once built a grass sofa in our garden out of earth, a supporting wooden frame, and grass patches. Over time, it became completely overgrown with wild ivy and significantly changed its shape. I remember a cheerful, inviting summer scene with the grass sofa among poppies—a scene full of serenity and dreaminess.
The third version of the motif in the intimate format 40 x 40 cm, now fits well over any sofa.
As a trained graphic designer, Norbert Städele primarily uses painting and drawing techniques in his artistic work. With a realistic style and detailed colored pencil drawings, he carefully illustrates his observations of the world. Layers of hatching create intensified colors that bring his themes to life. Städele's art expresses human relationships and social injustices through meticulous observation. He also explores the phenomena of light and color and the traces of human intervention in nature. His work is therefore a haunting, intense communication of his profound engagement with the world.
