About this artwork
Work comprising a monotype print on Japanese paper in a unique edition.
In creating this work I visually and conceptually explored the notion of interval and tension between different states of calm or emptiness.
The title "Between Two Silences" indicates that I am interested in what happens in the intervening space—not silence itself, but what exists between two moments of silence. This notion is echoed in the composition: the white space separating… the two forms becomes a site of creative tension.
The left side, with its regular lines on a black background, evokes a form of structured, almost meditative silence, while the right side, more gestural and splashed, suggests an energy that emerges or dissipates. The contrast between these two approaches—one geometric and controlled, the other spontaneous and expressive—materializes this idea of a passage, a transition between different states of tranquility.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
