Inspired by the iconic Cycladic figurines created in the Aegean islands during the Early Bronze Age (c. 3200–2000 BCE), in this sculpture, I embed miniature soldiers , bringing one of humanity's earliest sculptural archetypes into dialogue with a persistent reality of human history: territorial conflict and war.
The figures, associated with ritual, death, and remembrance, become a vessel for reflecting on humanity's enduring cycle of violence. The… soldiers suspended within the body evoke the countless lives shaped and lost through struggles for land, power, and identity. By merging an ancient archetype with symbols of warfare, I invite viewers to consider how conflict has remained a constant throughout human civilization and to reflect on the continuing human cost of territorial ambition.
Pierre Leichner, with a background rooted in both medicine and fine art, works across sculpture, painting, installation, BioArt, and video, blending scientific inquiry with poetic sensibility. His technique embraces organic materials, layered abstraction, and time-based processes, often inviting natural phenomena as collaborators. Playfulness and surprise give way to deeper ecological and socio-political meaning through engaging participatory works. Pierre’s art evokes vulnerability and resilience while inspiring reflection and a profound sense of interconnection between humanity, nature, and community.
