About this artwork
This work continues my exploration of our relationship with the environment. It reimagines the Venus of Willendorf as a metaphorical figure and container for our planet. The original 10 cm figurine, discovered in 1908 and dating to approximately 24,000 BCE, is widely regarded as a symbol of fertility and Mother Earth.
Drugged Venus is cast in pigmented resin with pills embedded throughout the figure. The medications and supplements reference our… growing dependence on pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, and other quick-fix solutions to relieve pain, enhance performance, manage anxiety, or escape discomfort.
Drugged Venus suggests that our search for immediate relief mirrors our broader relationship with the planet: seeking short-term solutions while neglecting the deeper causes of imbalance.
