About this artwork
Before I paint large canvases, I occasionally test color, technique and effect on small canvases.
This "small breakwater" is the preliminary study in 50 cm x 50 cm for my "large breakwater", 160 cm x 120 cm.
The idea is the same; as a young competitive swimmer, I learned that every stroke requires strength because it fights against the wave—but that's precisely where the energy that carries you and propels you forward comes from. Later, in my business,… I had the same experience. Customers who doubted, markets that fluctuated, situations that called everything into question. As a swimmer, I had learned not to break under such resistance, but to grow with it, to let it carry me forward. That's exactly what I wanted to translate into a universal and timeless visual world.
It is for you if you want to experience how resistance becomes strength and if you are looking for an anchor to remind you of your power.
My work arises from a fascination with ambivalence. Trust-distrust, freedom-order, reason-emotion, closeness-isolation and much more, all at the same time. This perspective stems from 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and creative mind in my trade fair construction company, where responsibility, economics, structure and creative design and thinking were inextricably linked. In my works I translated these tensions into images - decisively and openly to resonance. I paint lived ambivalences.
