About this artwork
This one came fast — about forty-five minutes, start to finish, moving with something internal, almost like a song running through me. My skies often come out this way: quick, instinctive, one stroke pulling the next along before I've had time to think about it.
Made during my second solo exhibition, Beyond Boundaries, it captures a moment from my seventh decade — that particular luxury of having the time to simply dwell inside the process, without… needing to justify the pace or the outcome. Layered whites rise like cloud and mountain at once, catching light in a way that shifts as you move past it. A pale glacial blue opens quietly at the centre, not planned, just what was there when I stopped.
It's a painting about presence more than image. About letting a moment move through the hand and land on the canvas exactly as it came.

I paint what I feel. After a life in finance, the palette knife became my primary way of speaking, plainly, without ornament. My subject is land, sea, and sky, held less as record than as memory of standing inside them.
I work in oils, building surface until it holds weight, something to be touched as much as seen, according to those who collect my work. Whether the canvas is small enough to hold in one hand or large enough to walk into, the intention doesn't change: a place that is as much interior as it is geographical.
In my mid-70s, I look for Self in the work, a thing being entirely itself, answerable to no one. The work says what I couldn't otherwise say. What you find in it is yours.
